Scoperte nel 1994 in Francia, nell’Ardèche, le pitture della Grotta del Pont d’Arc, detta Grotta Chauvet, risalenti a 36.000 anni fa, rappresentano una delle più antiche testimonianze artistiche dell’umanità. Queste immagini rivelano un’abilità eccezionale e rivoluzionano ogni precedente idea di arte preistorica. Per preservare questo inestimabile patrimonio è stata realizzata una replica della grotta a grandezza naturale con la riproduzione fedele di tutte le opere. Un’équipe formata da esperti di preistoria, di scultura e di pittura ha seguito i lavori, analizzato i materiali usati dagli uomini preistorici e indagato le loro tecniche e la loro abilità nello sfruttare ogni piega della roccia per dare vita alle immagini. Accompagnati dalle osservazioni dell’artista catalano Miquel Barceló, seguiamo il procedere dei lavori.

Discovered in the Ardèche department of France in 1994, the paintings in the Chauvet Cave, dating back some 36,000 years, represent the oldest testimony of human artistic expression. These images denote extraordinary ability and have revolutionized all previous concepts of prehistoric art. In order to conserve this site, a life size replica of the cave, complete with faithful reproductions of all the works, was realized. A team composed of experts in pre history, sculpture and painting closely followed the works, analyzed the materials used by these prehistoric people and examined their technique and ability to exploit every indentation in the rocks to give life to the images. Accompanied by Catalan artist Miquel Barceló, we follow the progress of these works.
